Meaningful Entreprenuership

An Ideal or a Real Option

Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship are often misunderstood. They may be associated with unscrupulous deal-making, focus on money and what it can buy – houses, cars, luxuries, status, power – or just the struggle to manage a 7 day work week. Many entrepreneurs may well fit into that picture. What if we were to challenge that view? What if being an entrepreneur could be expressed differently?

A journey of a promise
In the origin of the word entrepondre (from the French meaning to undertake), entrepreneurs are the ones who undertake a journey. It is a journey of promise. Entrepreneurs – true to their essence – promise something that they themselves are inspired to bring to existence from which others will benefit – a computer on every desk or affordable and fast forms of transportation or connecting people.

Passion and purpose over money
Ever wonder why some wealthy entrepreneurs continue showing up for work despite having made millions and billions of dollars, pounds and euro? Not that they have no other options. Nor lack of creativity in how to spend their money. The paradox is that they do not have to work and still do. Why?

;reklama;

We would say that the vast majority of the great entrepreneurs – known or relatively obscure – are not in business to primarily make money. They might embrace money as a means to move things forward but it is not why they are in business.

Admirable entrepreneurs have something to live for and something to which they are committed to contribute. Many risk bankruptcy or their livelihood to forward their dreams and projects while others – like Bill Gates or Warren Buffet – decide to donate a vast amount of their fortunes to causes that help others. We can assume that if it was about the money they would keep it safely locked in the bank vault.

Sharing a promise
Sustainably successful entrepreneurs also love what they do. They are passionate about what they do; if not every day, then on most days. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, was fired from his own company, set up another one (later bought by Apple) and then set up yet another. He is incredibly successful and by monetary standards incredibly rich, yet he still lives by his passion and love for what he is doing and by his ability to share his promise. The interesting thing about truly successful entrepreneurs is that they do not just keep their promises, they share them!

What if we could all rediscover our passion and clarify our purpose and then translate it into an exciting promise to ourselves and others? We bet that life would much more fun and fulfilling and there would be many more inspired entrepreneurs around.

It’s not too late.

„Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life.“
Steve Jobs
